Nearly 17 years ago, when the St. Cloud Disc Golf Club began a charity disc golf event, Co-Directors Rick Rentz and Adam Gorres could have only dreamt of the success that their event has achieved.
With the help of the Norman C. Skalicky Foundation, their event has grown to the be the highest grossing Disc Golf Ice Bowl in the world benefiting Catholic Charities Emergency Services and other local food shelves.
From a silent auction and selling hand-carved walking sticks to a “tax” for those who whine about the cold during the Ice Bowl, the crew has found new ways to collaborate with volunteers to take the event to a new level.
The entire crew’s dedication is appreciated by Catholic Charities. “The food shelf is particularly grateful to receive cash donations as it allows us to purchase more food than the average consumer can purchase in the grocery store,” said Kathryn Stolpman, Emergency Services Program Manager.
